From Shade to Exposure

Quite a while ago, we were given an outdoor umbrella. It is wooden with a green material shade cloth. It had been left outside to defend itself against the elements and although you can see it is worn, it still had a couple of good years on it!

It has been lovingly put up and in the African heat its shade is most welcome!

The day came when the faded green shade cloth finally gave way and ripped. We still used it for a while and over time the little rip became a cavernous tear. So the poor old umbrella was put away and forgotten.

A year later

It was a Saturday and I had gone out to run some errands. I came home and in our courtyard stood the old umbrella. It looked different though, naked. The shade cloth had been completely ripped off and all you had left was the skeleton of the umbrella.

My Hubby had decided to reuse the umbrella for a different purpose. He removed the ripped shade cloth, drilled holes above the joints and ran string through them. Then he put a set of wheels, the kind you would find under a fridge or large appliance, under the concrete stand and voilá, you have a moving washing line!

He is such a clever sausage!

Washing for 4 people and random stuff for animals means my laundry room is almost my sanctuary, since I spend so much time there. It is the place where I actually have a bit of peace and quiet. But there is never enough space to hang my laundry up to dry.  Now I have an easy to assemble moving washing line!

It’s strange how such a simple idea can solve a problem, and by recycling the old umbrella, it makes you feel good too!
